Vintage Silver Operculum Brooch
The brooch has a bezel set operculum shell with decorative engraved frame. Operculum are the remnants of the “trap door” like covering on a snails shell. Because they resemble eyes the are sometimes referred to as Cat's Eye or Evil Eye. These were very popular during Victorian times; worn as part of superstition to provide protection against the evil eye.

Measurements: 0.9435 inches long total and 0.9380 inches at widest. The operculum is 18.33 mm long and 16.50 mm wide.
