Antique 18k Shell Cameo Mythological Scene Brooch | The Triumph of Bacchus Cameo | Pictorial Mythology Cameo Brooch
The brooch features the mythological scene of the Triumph of Bacchus. Bacchus is holding his thyrsus in one hand and his wine cup in the other and is being pulled on a chariot by two satyrs. The chariot holds not only the God but his wine vessel as well. One of the Satyrs is holding a grape bunch in his hand. The chariot is being followed by a celebrating putto (cherub) chiming his cymbals. The brooch frame is open gold wire work with lovely decorative prongs.
