Antique 9K Gold Greenstone Pounamu Kia Ora Brooch | New Zealand Jade Kia Ora Cornucopia Brooch
The brooch is a carved pounamu or greenstone made from jade in the shape of a cornucopia-like form finished with beautiful gold ornate end caps. The larger cap has ornate scroll and gold ball details and the cap on the point has a single gold ball accent. The brooch features the Māori greeting of KIA ORA in pierced gold lettering at the center of the pounamu with flowers and leaf accents. "Kia-Ora" translates to "Be healthy or Have life" and is used as a greeting in the Māori-language. These pieces were made in the early 1900's as New Zealand tourist souvenirs which showcased traditional Māori culture in the jewelry materials used.
