The brooch/pin features a shield design with hand engraved hand engraving AVE. C. WORKING BOYS CLUB 1892. The top pin piece is hand engraved with the word ATTENDANCE.

A little history of the Avenue C Working Boys Club found in a Play Benefit Program from 1982:
"The object of the Avenue C Working Boys Club is to teach the trades of Carpentering and Printing. The work-shops (at the corner of Ave,C and 14th St.) will accommodate twenty boys, and the classes are arranged so that fifty boys receive instruction each week. The club is open five nights a week for eight months in each year.
The Carpenter's shop is admirably fitted with benches and tools, and in the Printing Department a good supply of type and a useful press enable the boys to turn out very creditable work.
The instructors in both departments are skilled and practical men and it is the constant aim of the managers of the Club to give the boys a thorough grounding in whichever trade they select. The Club is a work-shop and not a play-room, but the managers try to make the classes as attractive as possible.
The expense of carrying on the Club is not excessive. Each boy costs the Club about $16.00 for 8 months' term, and in this time the boys may become proficient in their trades.
The club is absolutely non-sectarian and any boy who is more than 14 years of age can join the classes. No charge is made to the boys."

The Avenue C Working Boys Club is also mentioned in the book : Church Philanthropy in New York: A Study of the Philanthropic Institutions of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the City of New York by Floyd Appleton
Jan 1906.
